As Gretchen Rubin puts it, Drew, the opposite of a great truth is also true (for instance, "everyone's different" is as valid as "everyone's the same"), and so you're quite right; that which disgusts us is a really valuable guide by which we should live our lives, a negative guide. However I think I prefer my own formulation!

Perhaps more meaningfully, we are shaped most by those things which disgust us, although luckily for us all we do not meet up with them everyday...as we have learnt well to avoid them like the plague...
