'glass of water and a barley cake'

I really love this idea. But I am thinking that the point of Christmas itself is that it is the time to indulge and splash out... this coming from someone who has actually cancelled Christmas this year and is staying at home with her dog and a good book and the best chocolate she can afford... I just think that these days the concept of indulgence has gotten way out of hand... some clever bugger said something to the affect that your stomach and your kids do not need all you can afford to give it... we do take the indulgence concept way too far... I personally don't eat anything on Christmas day that I don't eat at other times of the year.. I just do it around people I don't like very much.
